With the ink on the contract signed by Patrick Viera hardly even dried yet, mega-rich Manchester City are already on the verge of snapping up another player. Argentina left-back Cristian Ansaldi, is reported by The Times as on the verge of signing a £4M deal with the Citizens.

The 23-year-old helped his club Rubin Kazan claim back-to-back Russian Premier League titles in 2008 and 2009 and was impressive in the team’s Champions League campaign, where they managed to beat Barcelona at the Nou Camp. Matched up with Lionel Messi in the clashes, the young defender proved more than capable of handling world-class talent.

Ansaldi’s acquisition would bolster Roberto Mancini’s options at left-back where veteran 35-year-old Sylvinho is currently deputising for the injured Wayne Bridge, who is expected to be out for at least another month.
