Real Madrid president Florentino Perez welcomed the Champions League trophy to the Bernabeu yesterday, and despite obvious disappointment that Los Blancos will not contest the final, Perez said Madrid would do all they could to be the perfect hosts.

The nine times winners may yet have to suffer the sight of bitter rivals Barcelona contesting the Champions League final at the Bernabeu, but even if that happens Perez promised them a warm welcome.

The Real Madrid president sent out this message to Barcelona: "If [Barcelona] reach the final we will do everything we can to make you feel at home."

Despite Perez’s words it is likely that all of the white half of Madrid will be hoping Jose Mourinho’s Inter can ensure the nightmare scenario of Carles Puyol lifting the Champions League trophy at the Bernabeu can be avoided.
