According to Spanish paper Sport, ambitious mid-table side Espanyol are looking to take the necessary steps to become a club competing for top honours in La Liga. Already with a solid squad, a successful youth program, and with plenty of desire to succeed, the team’s management feel the only thing missing is the signing of a well-established star.

Needing a player with an established reputation worldwide, and an ability to spearhead the team’s efforts for success, the club have earmarked former Real Madrid player Ruud van Nistelrooy as the perfect candidate for their ambitions.

The 33-year-old Dutchman is currently plying his trade with Bundesliga side Hamburg, where he has scored 7 goals since his transfer to the club in the recently passed January transfer window.
