Having survived in La Liga this season by just a single point, Malaga could be set for the boost of a mega-rich new owner. Reports from Spain suggest that a rich Qatari Sheikh is preparing to buy the club from current president Fernando Sanz.

Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al-Thani is, according to AS, prepared to pay Sanz €25M to take control of the Spanish side. Negotiations are already well advanced and could result in Malaga being much more competitive in next season's La Liga.

Whether a Middle Eastern takeover of a La Liga club could herald the start of an invasion of foreign owners in Spain's top flight remains to be seen, but with the gap between Barcelona and Real Madrid and the rest growing ever larger, bigger budgets for smaller sides seem essential to boost competition.
