With reports surfacing in the British press that Rafael Benitez is being forced out of Liverpool, Spanish paper Marca claims the manager, deemed surplus to standards at Anfield, is one step closer to becoming Jose Mourinho’s successor at Inter Milan.
It is believed that Benitez has lost all support from the Liverpool hierarchy, and is being offered £3M to leave the Reds after a lengthy meeting yesterday night. The deal is reportedly being considered seriously by the Spanish manager, who is likely to move to Serie A.
After six years at the club, in which he guided the Reds to a Champions League title, Benitez is expected to confirm his departure in the next 48 hours. In line to replace the former Valencia boss at Anfield, are Fulham boss Roy Hodgson, Bayern Munich manager Louis van Gaal, and Jorge Jesus of Benfica.
