Bayern Munich have played down talk that Germany national team coach Joachim Loew is at the top of their list to become the club’s new manager in the summer.
Current boss Louis van Gaal will leave the Allianz Arena at the end of the season and Bayern have already begun the search for his successor, a search that the German press reported had led them to Loew’s door. But it is a charge Bayern deny.
"This is just speculation", said Bayern’s sporting director Christian Nerlinger, "but there is no truth in that.
"We will try to present a reasonable and convincing sporting [case to the new boss]."
The Bundesliga giants can surely offer any potential coach the opportunity to compete for the biggest prizes in the game, although it would be unimaginable that Loew would leave the Germany job just over a year before Euro 2012 in Poland/Ukraine.
