Malaga’s exciting young striker Jose Saloman Rondon has emerged as a key transfer target for Premier League outfit Newcastle United.

The English club are keen to add further forwards to their squad in the summer and manager Alan Pardew has £35M received from the sale of Andy Carroll to Liverpool in January burning a hole in his pocket. And Pardew has been impressed with Rondon.

The Venezuelan striker joined Malaga last summer, switching from Canary Islands side Las Palmas where he was instrumental in helping the club to avoid relegation from the Segunda Division.

Newcastle will be aware that Rondon is not likely to be sold cheaply from a Malaga side flush with cash following their takeover by Sheikh Al Thani, a takeover that has resulted in the installation of former Real Madrid boss Manuel Pellegrini in the dugout.

The English side however are hoping they may be able to bag a discount on Rondon if Malaga are relegated. Pellegrini’s men currently sit inside the drop zone and are battling with Almeria, Hercules, Real Zaragoza, Getafe and Deportivo La Coruna to survive.
