Manchester United keeper Edwin van der Sar has declared that he is determined to be returning to Wembley for the FA Cup final next month. United face local rivals Manchester City today at Wembley for a spot in the final and Van der Sar is determined they should succeed.
"It’s always good to play at Wembley and it’s always a nice trip for the fans, but it’s only special when you win", the Dutchman told the match’s official programme.
And Van der Sar, who is set to retire from football at the end of the season, revealed that thoughts of the 2007 FA Cup final defeat to Chelsea have lingered on his mind and pushed him to win the competition.
"The [2007] FA Cup defeat was very disappointing. We’ve had a couple of good results there and we want another on Saturday. The name of the game is winning and it’s our aim to make sure we get to the final."
With United also into the semi-final of the Champions League and the final for Europe’s showpiece event at Wembley too, Van der Sar could be set to make a further two trips back to the British capital should his side see off City today.
