FC Porto boss Andre Villas Boas had dubbed reports that he is leaving the Portuguese side "absurd".

Villas Boas, a former assistant to Jose Mourinho, has impressed since taking over at Porto and has already led the side to this season’s Portuguese title. The 33-year-old has also plotted the side’s route to the semi-finals of the Europa League, where they are due to play their first leg against Spanish club Villarreal this evening.

And reports had suggested that Villas Boas had turned down the chance to take over as Roma coach for next season because he was already on his way to Liverpool.

"It’s absurd", said Villas Boas when questioned on the prospect.

"There are amazing stories. They say that I said ‘no’ to Roma because I am at Liverpool and it’s just absurd."

The Portuguese coach is expected to remain with Porto next season, keen as he is to retain the league title and plot a Champions League charge.
