Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho has been handed a five-match ban from European competition by UEFA following his conduct in the Champions League semi-final first leg against Barcelona.
UEFA believe it was inappropriate for the Portuguese boss to accuse Europe’s governing body and the referees of seeking to help Barcelona win. With Mourinho having served one match of the ban for the second leg, and with another of the five games suspended for three years, Los Blancos’ coach will effectively have to sit out three games of next season’s competition.
Real Madrid have announced they will appeal against Mourinho’s sanction, while Barcelona keeper Jose Manuel Pinto and Los Blancos’ defender Pepe have each been handed a one-match ban.
