Former England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson has been sacked by Championship side Leicester City.

Eriksson had lavished millions on the Midlands club over the summer, but had failed to impress enough to convince Leicester’s Asian owners that he could steer the side to the Premier League.

The 63-year-old has overseen just five wins out of Leicester’s eleven league games this season, leaving the club in mid-table. Assistant manager Derek Fazackerley has also left the side.

"The club and its board of directors would like to thank Sven and Derek for the contribution they have made to Leicester City during their 13 months at King Power Stadium.

"The process of recruiting a new permanent manager will begin in the coming days.

"There will be no further comments from the club or any comment on the recruitment process until an appointment is made."
