Holland and Denmark have crashed out of Euro 2012 after a thrilling night of football in Group B.
Germany had already booked their spot in the quarter-finals, but Denmark, Holland and Portugal started the night battling for the remaining place.
For Holland, the calculations meant they had to beat Portugal by two clear goals and hope Germany finished off Denmark.
But while Germany kept their part of the bargain, beating Denmark 2-1, Holland could not beat Portugal, and instead were toppled by Cristano Ronaldo and co.
The Portuguese recorded a 2-1 win, with Ronaldo opening his Euro 2012 account by scoring both goals, and now Paulo Bento’s men can look forward to a quarter-final spot.
Holland meanwhile are left to reflect on a campaign which promised so much but ultimately delivered little.
