Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson feels that Paul Scholes is still the best passer of a ball in England, but does not know yet whether he will play on next season.

Scholes hung up his boots in the summer of 2011, however he came out of retirement to help the Red Devils in January 2012.

This season he has played on, despite being 38 years old, and has had a positive impact for Ferguson’s side in a number of matches.

The midfielder celebrated his birthday yesterday, moving him to the same age as veteran Ryan Giggs, although the Welshman will turn 39 on 29th November.

Whether Scholes, who has started five Premier League matches so far this season, appearing in another three from the bench, will continue into the 2013/14 campaign, is not clear, and Ferguson admits he does not know, while at the same time lavishing praise on the schemer.

"There’s not a time to make a judgement on that [carrying on next year]", the manager told his club’s official site.

"I think Paul will know himself. But he is still the best passer of the ball in the country. That’s not stopped", he continued.

"He has still got the desire to play. He is 38 and Ryan is 39 on 29 November. It’s amazing, particularly with Scholesy, because he has had one or two injuries over the years and he quit last summer and then came back again.

"He made a fantastic contribution in the second half of last season. I just think he’s doing what he’s doing and he’ll sort it out himself."
