Juventus director general Giuseppe Marotta admits that the club have been shocked by the progress of midfielder Paul Pogba, a player they expected to take longer to blossom upon signing from Manchester United.

The Italian champions scored a coup in 2012 by snapping up Pogba upon the expiry of his contract with the Red Devils – and the 20-year-old has not let the Bianconeri down.

Pogba shone with Juventus last term, helping the side to retain the Serie A title, while he then capped that off by captaining France's Under-20s to Under-20 World Cup success in the summer.

He has also now established himself in Didier Deschamps' senior France squad.

And Moratta is surprised by the midfielder's rapid development.

"We did not expect that he could explode so quickly", the Juventus supremo told Sky Italia.

"At Manchester United he had produced more than satisfactory performances, but we did not think he could explode so soon."

Juventus are already attempting to extend Pogba's contract, which expires in 2016, but there is interest in the midfielder from England, while Paris Saint-Germain would dearly love to tempt him back to his native France.
