Emmanuel Adebayor has admitted he would like Tim Sherwood to remain as Tottenham Hotspur manager, but feels the decision is not his to take.

On a day dominated by newspaper headlines which claimed Sherwood will be sacked in the summer, Spurs dismantled Sunderland at White Hart Lane, running out 5-1 winners.

Sherwood watched his men fall behind to a 17th-minute Lee Cattermole goal, but Adebayor struck to ensure they would go in level at half time.

In the second half, Tottenham picked up the pace, goals from Harry Kane (59th minute), Christian Eriksen (78th minute), a second from Adebayor (86th minute) and Gylfi Sigurdsson (90th minute) giving the club their largest win at White Hart Lane for two years.

Asked about whether he wants Sherwood to continue, Adebayor told Sky Sports: "I'm a player and I'm scoring goals, so I will hope he stays.

"But I'm not the chairman and I'm not the owner of the club. I'm a professional footballer and I just say focused.

"He has been a big part of my life, when everyone forgot me he brought me back in and gave me my life back."

And Eriksen echoed Adebayor's thoughts, claiming that the players have been determined not to let outside stories influence them.

"I think everyone wants to show we're not affected by what the newspapers say and we're just playing our game."
