Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher is out to avenge the close defeat his side suffered at Bayern Munich’s hands in the quarter-final tie in the 2009/10 season in the Champions League.
Manchester United will take on Bayern Munich in the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie at the Allianz Arena tonight. The first leg ended as a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford last Tuesday.

Fletcher has recalled that tie, which was narrowly lost against the Germans, and lamented the fact that the margins in that game were so small and Manchester United ended up on the wrong side of a closely fought tie.
"It’s a big disappointment looking back", he told the club’s official site.

"There was nothing in the game out here but we lost two late goals which were quite sloppy. Then, after dominating the second leg, we were unfortunate to go out, I think.”
Fletcher regrets the fact that even though they played well in the first half of the second leg at Old Trafford, circumstances went against Manchester United in the second half and confessed that it was a big missed opportunity for the club that season.
"Circumstances weren’t with us on the night after a great first-half performance. So yes, there is regret – but there’s regret every time you lose in the Champions League.
“But that is one I look back on and think it was a real missed opportunity because of how well we played over the two legs."
The first leg of that tie finished 2-1 in favour of Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena. In the second leg, even after scoring three first half goals, Manchester United lost the tie on away goals when Ivica Olic and Arjen Robben scored for Bayern Munich.
Red Devils full-back Rafael was sent off that night. The then-Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson described the behaviour of Bayern Munich players around the second yellow card for the Brazilian as ‘Typical Germans’.
