Tottenham Hotspur assistant manager Steffen Freund believes that German side Borussia Dortmund must not let current boss Jurgen Klopp leave if they wish to mount serious challenge on Bayern Munich.

The man who led his team to the 2011/12 Bundesliga trophy has been linked with a move away from the club, but the former Dortmund player thinks that the Ruhr giants must keep him at the club at any cost.

Klopp, who recently signed a new two-year contract with the club, was also instrumental in guiding the team to last year's Champions League final at Wembley, where they were eventually beaten by the Bavarians.

"With him the team grew into the best team in Germany. I think he can do the same again", Freund was quoted as saying by the BBC.

"Jurgen Klopp is the most important person at Borussia Dortmund.

"They had been involved in the relegation zone, or in mid-table, until he arrived.

"I think he can do the same again with young players like striker Marvin Ducksch and left-back Erik Durm. They have options and good players coming through."

Die Borussen are currently placed second in the league with 58 points, trailing the recently crowned German champions Bayern Munich by 20 points; they meet Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena tomorrow.
