The 41-year-old believes that a lot of the credit for Liverpool’s success this season lies with what goes on behind the scenes and how players are prepared and helped to recuperate to be ready for the next fixture.

"Technically, tactically, medically and in terms of sports science, we're working with a clear methodology and a clear vision of how we work on the field and how they can recuperate players off it”, the Northern Irishman was quoted as saying by the club’s official site.

The former Swansea manager believes that the mental aspect of the game is criminally neglected in some places, but for him mental preparation for a game is as important as the tactical and physical preparation.

"Key for my work at any club I've worked at is the mental skills aspect of a player. It's something that can get frowned upon in some places but it's very important to me.

"If you take care of the technical, tactical and physical elements then the mental skills perspective of a footballer is equally as important.”

Before taking a managerial job at Watford, Rodgers was appointed as Chelsea’s youth coach by Jose Mourinho in 2004 and was elevated to reserve team manager two years later, serving until 2008, when he departed for the Hornets.
