Fenerbahce have officially confirmed that they are in talks with Manchester United to sign striker Robin van Persie this summer.

It has been claimed that the Yellow Canaries have been putting Van Persie through his medical paces in England today as they race to complete a deal for the Netherlands international.

Fenerbahce are thought to already have an agreement with Manchester United and the player, but need to put the finishing touches to the deal along with assessing Van Persie's medical results.

And now the Turkish Super Lig club have indeed confirmed talks are under way with the Red Devils.

The Istanbul giants announced via their Twitter feed: "Fenerbahce has begun to transfer talks [sic] with Robin van Persie and his club Manchester United."

Van Persie has only a single year remaining on his contract at Old Trafford and following a season which saw him struggle for form and struck by injuries, has not yet been offered an extension.

The signing of the Netherlands international, who also counts Arsenal amongst his former clubs, will be considered a big coup for Fenerbahce as they fight to take the title off Galatasaray next season.
