Rangers head of academy Craig Mulholland believes the experience gained by youngsters upon exposure to the first team is invaluable and feels that the talents can help improve their respective teams with what they learn from the senior side players and staff.

Young midfielder Liam Burt made his first team debut for Mark Warburton’s side in the 2-0 win over Raith Rovers on 1st March.

Burt along with Jack Thomson and Scott Roberts made it to the matchday squad of the Ibrox outfit’s last game against Premiership side Dundee in the quarter-final of the Scottish Cup on 5th March.

Warburton’s side came out comfortable winners from the match, registering a comprehensive 4-0 victory against the Premiership outfit.

Mulholland revealed that he spoke to the trio who were involved in the matchday squad for the win over Dundee, and explained that the youngsters were full of ideas, which they learned from their experience with the first team.

The head of academy feels that the youngsters can help improve the academy teams that they are part of and reiterated that once a player gets a taste of first team football, they want it again and again, and this in turn helps the players to push themselves harder to experience it again.

Speaking in an interview with the club’s official website, Mulholland said: “I spoke to the boys on Monday and they had so many ideas they had learned from the first team on analysis, how they prepare for the game and information the manager had given them.

“So if that helps them come back here and play with the under-17s or under-20s, then great, and every boy that comes through here must be hungry and desperate, and when you get a taste of that you want to experience it again and again.”

The Gers have booked a semi-final clash in the Scottish Cup against arch-rivals and Premiership leaders Celtic with their 4-0 win over Dundee.
