Scott Brown has explained that Celtic are prepared to win ugly in order to accumulate the necessary points required to claim their fifth successive Scottish Premiership title.

Ronny Deila’s team, who drew their last two league games against Hamilton Academical and Dundee, currently find themselves just one point clear at the top of the table, albeit having played a game fewer than second-placed Aberdeen.

With the season having entered its final lap, Celtic must avoid dropping points to stay clear of Aberdeen, whom the Scottish champions are still to face once in the present campaign.

And Brown, who is hopeful about Celtic bagging their fifth league title on the trot, insisted that his side may sacrifice playing “pretty football” to achieve the feat.

“Aberdeen are a point behind us now, although we’ve got a game in hand”, he said in a press conference yesterday.

“It’s competitive week in week out, it doesn’t matter who you play, every game now at this stage of the season is a huge game for us and we should be thriving week in week out, there should be no excuses.

“We need to keep winning games and keep getting points on the board. Sometimes it doesn’t need to be pretty football, it could be ugly as three points is three points at the end of the day.

“Hopefully we can get that five in a row.”

Celtic, who beat Greenock Morton 3-0 in the Scottish Cup at the weekend to set up a semi-final clash with Rangers, are up against Partick Thistle in an away league game tomorrow.
