Former Liverpool manager Roy Evans has warned the Reds against doing tricks and flicks in their own half, following their 2-0 win over Manchester United in a Europa League Round of 16 first leg clash at Anfield last night.

The Merseyside giants have several flair players in their ranks, such as Philippe Coutinho, Daniel Sturridge and Roberto Firmino, who like trickery and play intricate passes.

But Evans, whose former employers beat Manchester United, courtesy of goals from Sturridge and Firmino, feels it is dangerous for Liverpool to perform such tricky moves in their own half.

The 67-year-old wants Jurgen Klopp’s team, whose passing ability he lauded, to carry out the expansive trickery only when they are in and around the opponents’ box.

“We’ve got to be really careful, our passing has been very good, but we’ve got a team of backheelers and little passes – but only in the opposition half and if it comes off”, Evans said on LFC TV after the match.

“If you do them in your own half…..you need to be doing it in their half and in and around their box.”

Liverpool, who are currently seventh in the Premier League with 44 points from 28 games, will next face Manchester United for the return Europa League fixture at Old Trafford next week.
