Former Liverpool midfielder Ronnie Whelan has insisted that he would choose the Reds over Manchester United if he was a player today and has explained why.
Goals from Daniel Sturridge and Roberto Firmino helped Liverpool to beat Manchester United 2-0 in a Europa League Round of 16 first leg clash at Anfield last night and the Red Devils had David de Gea to thank for keeping the scoreline down.
The Red Devils now have a mountain to climb if they want to qualify to the quarter-finals of the continental competition at the expense of Jurgen Klopp’s team.
And Whelan, who played for Liverpool between 1979 and 1994, explained that he would have chosen to play for the Merseyside giants over Manchester United and Manchester City if he was a player of this generation, owing to Klopp, the Reds players and their playing style.
“If I was a player now and Manchester United and Liverpool wanted me, I’d look at Liverpool now and say, 'yes, I’d enjoy it there'”, he said on LFC TV after the game.
