Ex-Chelsea striker Tommy Langley has insisted that the Blues need to improve upon their recent recruitment record to move forward next season.
After winning the league title last season, Chelsea’s current campaign can be described as nothing short of a car-crash, with Jose Mourinho leaving the club in December and they are also not expected to qualify for Europe this term.
Chelsea’s FA Cup and Champions League hopes also ended in ruins last week, and while the club are planning a flurry of changes in the summer, which includes installing a new manager, former Blue Langley feels the club’s recruitment needs to improve a lot this summer.
Their lacklustre summer recruitment has been cited as one of the reasons behind their swift demise this season, and the former striker insisted that they need to go for top quality talent this time around to recover from a chastising campaign.
The 58-year-old said on Chelsea TV in the wake of his side's FA Cup loss to Everton: “I can see some people leaving.

“The recruitment in the summer is going to be very important; getting the right characters into the football club, getting the right personnel into the football club.
“Our recruitment over the last 18 months has been poor. We need to get that right at the top level; we need to get people through the door who are going to impact our season.”
Summer recruits such as Baba Rahman and Radamel Falcao have made little to no impact this season, and defender Papy Djilobodji left the club on loan in January after playing little football in his first few months at the club.
