Rangers defender James Tavernier admits that the club want to wrap up the league title before they face Celtic in the Scottish Cup semi-final next month.

The Gers are dominating their way towards the Scottish Championship title, and currently have a 14-point lead at the top of the table, with a game in hand over second placed Falkirk.

Mark Warburton’s men will be crowned champions if they win their next three or four league fixtures and that is exactly what Tavernier wants to do before they face Celtic in the Scottish Cup semi-final on 17th April.

While he doesn’t want to look too far ahead, he admits that it would be wonderful if they can wrap up the league title and win the Challenge Cup before the big Old Firm derby at Hampden Park.

The Rangers full-back told the club’s official website: “Hopefully we can win it before we go to Hampden, I would like to think we can because we are on a great run at the moment and we aren’t letting in a lot of goals.

“We have every chance of getting the wins under our belt as soon as possible.

“You can’t look too far ahead, I know we have a big game next month which everyone is looking forward to, but we want to wrap up the league and the Petrofac trophy before we get to that game.”

Rangers can take one more giant step towards the Scottish Championship if they can register an away win over their closest rivals Falkirk on Friday night.
