Rangers assistant manager David Weir has admitted that he was taken aback after Lee Wallace was not called up by Scotland for the nation’s upcoming friendlies against the Czech Republic and Denmark later in the month.
Scotland boss Gordon Strachan decided against including Wallace or anyone from Rangers in his team, despite the left-back being in fine form in the current campaign.
Wallace has scored nine goals and provided 11 assists in 39 appearances in all competitions in the present campaign, in addition to helping his side keep 21 clean sheets.
And Weir, who insisted that Wallace deserved to be called up by Scotland, explained that the defender’s all-round performances have stood out, even though Rangers currently ply their trade in the Scottish Championship.
“I think I find it hard to believe”, he was quoted as saying by the Herald Scotland.

“Obviously watching Lee closely day in day out – how he trains, watching him in the games and how he has been playing – it’s credit to the lads who are in the squad because they must be doing really well if they are performing better than Lee Wallace, because he really hasn’t put a foot wrong.
“He has contributed defensively and offensively; some people might say it’s the Scottish Championship but Lee’s performances have stood on their own two feet.
“He’s been head and shoulders in regards to his performances and the level he has been at, so I’ve got nothing but compliments to pay to Lee in regards to how well he has done.
"It’s been consistent as well, it’s been from day one in the season and he hasn’t dropped below his levels at any stage at all.”
Wallace, whose last international cap came in November 2013 when he featured in a goalless draw with the United States in a friendly, has thus far represented Scotland seven times.
