Former Chelsea defender Jason Cundy admits he feels some sympathy for Loic Remy being thrown into action for the Blues in a 2-2 draw with West Ham at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

Blues boss Guus Hiddink chose to start with Remy in attack, but it soon became clear that the Frenchman was not on the same wavelength as his team-mates as he struggled to get into the game.

Remy was brought off just after the hour mark, with Bertrand Traore coming on and Cundy feels some sympathy for the France international as he feels he has not played enough to develop a good understanding with his team-mates yet.

Speaking on Chelsea TV, Cundy said: "I have a certain amount of sympathy for Loic Remy. He's been overlooked for the majority of the time he has been here and then to throw him in and say 'right, ok, start'.

"I think he is second, definitely behind [Diego] Costa and has been behind Traore", he continued.

"With the build up play I felt there was a lack of communication between the midfield and Loic Remy, whatever he did", Cundy added.

Following the draw against West Ham, Chelsea continue to sit in tenth spot in the Premier League standings with 41 points from 30 games.

The Blues have not given up hope of making a late dash for a European place, but are running out of games to close the gap on the top five, with just eight more league games left to play.
