Lazar Markovic is set to return to Liverpool in the summer as Fenerbahce are unlikely to push to sign him on a permanent deal following the expiry of his loan.

The 22-year-old was loaned out to the Turkish giants last summer, after an unimpressive first season at Anfield, but things have not gone according to plan in Turkey for the Serbian winger.

Markovic, who is currently nursing a hamstring problem, has struggled with injuries at Fenerbahce and has made 20 appearances in all competitions, scoring just twice, and assisting three goals.

And it seems he could be on his way back to Liverpool this summer as according to NTV Spor, the Turkish giants are unwilling to offer him a permanent contract at the end of the season.

The club do not feel that the Serbian has done enough during his time in Turkey to earn a permanent move, and his constant injury troubles are also a concern for Fenerbahce.

Markovic is expected to return to the team before the end of the season, but he is unlikely to convince the Turkish giants to offer him a permanent contract.

It remains to be seen whether he has a long term future at Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp if he returns to England in the summer, as the German is expected to conduct major retooling of his squad in the transfer window.
