Leeds United may turn to former Italy captain Fabio Cannavaro if they sack current manager Steve Evans, according to Italian daily Gazzetta dello Sport.

Whites owner Massimo Cellino, who is known for chopping and changing managers at the drop of a hat, is reportedly not pleased with Evans, with Leeds languishing in 13th spot in the Championship with 47 points from 37 outings.

Leeds’ representatives are claimed to have met with Cannavaro to discuss the proposition yesterday, but the Yorkshire giants have competition as two Chinese clubs are also interested in appointing the Italian as their new manager.

The 42-year-old, who was the assistant manager at Al-Ahli, also has experience of managing Guangzhou Evergrande and Al-Nassr.

However, Cannavaro may not have to work under Cellino if he indeed decides to take charge of Leeds as a Middle Eastern consortium are reported to be interested in buying the club.
