Former Manchester United striker Louis Saha is of the opinion that Anthony Martial would have performed better if the Red Devils had been more consistent this season.

The striker, who joined Manchester United from Monaco for £36m in the summer, has scored 12 goals and provided seven assists in 39 appearances in all competitions for the Premier League giants.

But Saha thinks Manchester United’s indifferent performances in the present campaign have not helped Martial to up his game a few notches higher.

However, the Frenchman, who spent four successful seasons at Manchester United between 2004 and 2008, praised his compatriot for his willingness to improve.

"What I really like about him is that he is willing to improve”, he told MUTV.

“He is listening and trying to get things going.

"He hasn’t been helped because the team hasn’t been performing consistently, so imagine if a few players stepped it up?

"Then it would have been even easier for him."

Martial, who scored 15 goals in 70 games for Monaco, is a product of fellow Ligue 1 outfit Lyon’s youth system.

The 20-year-old has thus far earned six senior caps for France and has also represented the nation at various youth levels.

His present contract with Manchester United runs until the summer of 2019.
