Germany forward Thomas Muller has stressed the important of Bastian Schweinsteiger recovering from his injury before the European Championship this summer.
Schweinsteiger, who just recovered from an ankle injury, sustained fresh damage to his knee ligaments on Tuesday while training with his national team ahead of their upcoming international friendlies.
While there has been no confirmation, the veteran midfielder could be out of action for up to two months, and there are fears in Germany that he might not be fit enough to board the plane for this summer’s European Championship to France.
Germany head coach Joachim Low has not yet lost hope of having Schweinsteiger in his squad for the tournament, and Muller also stressed the importance of having the captain fit for the summer extravaganza.
The Bayern Munich star said in a press conference: “It’s bad for him and bad for us [too].

“I hope he recovers as quickly as possible, as there is not too much left for the European Championship.
“It would be important if the captain is on board with us.”
Schweinsteiger played a pivotal role in Germany winning the World Cup in 2014, and the European Championship could be his last opportunity to lead his country in a major tournament.
