Celtic‘s Callum McGregor has revealed that as an up and coming midfielder he looked up to former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard and has tried to mould his game on the LA Galaxy star.

One of the most talented young midfielders in the Celtic squad, the 22-year-old Scot has caught the eye with his recent performances in the Scottish Premiership and is expected to play a major role going forward with the club.

A product of Celtic’s academy, McGregor is considered a bright prospect for both club and country and he revealed that as an up and coming midfielder, he always looked up to former England captain and Liverpool legend Gerrard.

He added that the former Liverpool man’s penchant for scoring important goals at key moments is something he truly admired and he remains one of the midfielders on whom he has tried to mould his game.

The Scot told the Herald Scotland: "The guys I looked up to? There’s a few. You think of Steven Gerrard when you are younger who I watched on the TV.
