Leeds United boss Steve Evans is confident that Chris Wood will be ready for action if he makes the starting eleven against Rotherham on Saturday.

The New Zealand forward has scored eight Championship goals for Leeds this season, but his campaign has been disrupted by niggling hamstring concerns, which have not allowed him to play too much football since the turn of the year.

Apart from two behind closed door friendlies, the 24-year-old has not started a game for Leeds since returning from his latest injury setback a few weeks ago, but with Souleymane Doukara banned for eight matches, Wood is expected to return to the starting eleven tomorrow at the New York Stadium.

And Evans is confident that the striker should be in top shape, both mentally and physically, if he decides to start Wood against Rotherham.

The Leeds boss said in a press conference: “He has been walking backwards and forward past my office for the last two hours, so he’s definitely trying to get my attention.

“I have spoken to him, and he is ready if selected.”

Evans has continued to maintain that Wood remains a key part of the club’s future, and has praised him for returning from injury in top notch shape.

The New Zealander joined Leeds from Leicester last summer and has a contract until 2019 with the club.
