Gary Mackay-Steven feels Celtic showed their title credentials by coming out with 3-1 win over Heart of Midlothian in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday, while he also made special mention of the crowd at Celtic Park.

The Bhoys, who are close to wrapping up their fifth consecutive Scottish Premiership title, fell behind to an early Jamie Walker goal at Celtic Park.

But a Mackay-Steven goal and a brace from Patrick Roberts helped Celtic to seal the victory and consolidate their place at the top of the table.

And Mackay-Steven, who praised the fans for their support at the weekend, was pleased in the manner in which Celtic managed to bag the full three points against Hearts.

“It was a great game to be involved in", he was quoted as saying by the Herald Scotland.

"The fans were amazing, it was a big crowd, and they gave us a lift before the game even kicked off.

“We were good in all areas, we were disciplined and made some chances and worked their goalkeeper a lot so it was a pleasing day at the office for all of us collectively.

“We didn’t let our heads drop when Hearts scored their goal and overall we deserved to win. Sometimes to win titles you’ve got to bite and scratch and there was an element of that.

“You saw a lot of tackles flying in and that’s just players giving their all. It was pleasing to be involved and we showed our title credentials, I think."

Celtic, who are currently four points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership table with a game in hand, will next face Dundee on Tuesday evening before taking on Motherwell four days later, with both being away league games.

The Hoops currently have 72 points from 31 games, with seven league outings remaining in the season.
