Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed that the club are in talks with Alex Iwobi over a contract extension.
The 19-year-old joined the side’s youth system at the age of eight, but burst onto the Premier League scene this season having already made seven appearances with two goals to his name.
He has managed to keep Theo Walcott out of the first team and made back to back starts in his last two outings, against Everton and Watford.
The Nigerian international, who has won two back-to-back man of the match awards in his first two starts, and has been keen to shine at the Emirates Stadium, is wanted for the long term. And Wenger is desperate to ensure that the player commits his long term future to the Gunners, before the interest in him from other parties grows.
The French manager has admitted that talks about extending the winger’s contract are already under way.

“We are discussing extending his contract at the moment”, he said in a press conference, according to Arsenal’s official website.
“He’s a real Arsenal person because he’s been here since the age of eight. He has three years left at the end of the season anyway but we want to keep him here for longer.
“If there have been some positives in the last few months, it’s how well and how quickly he’s emerged as a player with a good impact”, the 66-year-old further added.
