Roberts scored the winning goal in the tie as Sunderland beat Sheffield Wednesday in the semi-finals of the League One playoffs.
It has led to a sense of euphoria amongst the Sunderland fanbase who are looking forward to getting back into the Championship after four years in the third tier of English football.
Sunderland are set to face Wycombe Wanderers in the final at Wembley on Saturday and Roberts stressed the importance of the team not getting carried away with emotions.
He insisted that the job is not done yet but admitted that Black Cats boss Alex Neil’s trust in his charges has helped them do well this season.
The 25-year-old told The Athletic: “At this moment, the manager here is trusting in us, in me.
“It’s why we’re doing so well, we’ve got that trust.
“But now the thing is not to get carried away.
“There’s one more game. A lot of people need to realise that. It’s not done.”
Sunderland lost the League One playoff final in the 2018/19 season when Charlton Athletic scored a stoppage time winner to break their hearts.
