Kamara completed a move to join the Midlands club on a free transfer earlier this week after he left Marseille at the end of the season.

The 22-year-old midfielder is considered a big talent and Aston Villa had to beat several clubs to his signature this summer.

Atletico Madrid were considered the favourites to sign him as late as last week and he was expected to move to Spain ahead of next season.

But according to French sports daily L’Equipe, the Spanish giants dithered and delayed making a decision on signing the Frenchman.

And Atletico Madrid’s indecision meant that Aston Villa swooped in and got a deal done to sign Kamara on a free transfer.

The midfielder also held talks with Steven Gerrard, which further convinced him to sign on the dotted line with Villa.

The Aston Villa boss personally watched the Frenchman play earlier this year and pushed Aston Villa to get his signature.
