While Minamino was prolific for the Reds in the domestic cup competitions last term, scoring seven goals in nine appearances, he struggled otherwise for game-time.

He made just one start in the Premier League, and it came in the second-last match of the season after having not taken the field for nearly three months, last term.

After his struggles, the attacker has been linked with a move away from Anfield in the summer and Southampton were suggested as one of the possible destinations.

However, the attacker is unlikely to move to St. Mary’s in the summer for a second spell after the one in the 2020/21 season.

The Japanese star joined the Saints in the latter half of the 2020/21 campaign on loan from the Reds and he ended up making ten appearances for them.

Although a move to Southampton seems unlikely, Minamino could still be a departure out of Anfield this summer.

Leeds United are one of the clubs linked with the player, with a swap deal involving him and Whites star Raphinha being claimed to be considered by the Reds.
