Manchester United are closing in on a move to sign the Dutch midfielder from Barcelona this summer.

The Premier League giants have finally managed to agree on terms on a contract with the player and De Jong has given his consent to the move.

Manchester United are now in talks with Barcelona with the Catalan giants demanding a fee in the region of €80m before agreeing to sell him.

The 25-year-old was not initially sold on a move to Old Trafford but Ten Hag has emerged as the major factor.

The Manchester United manager succeeded in convincing the player about the project and the leading role he would have at Old Trafford.

The Dutchman has also been lured by the prospect of working under Ten Hag again in his career.

De Jong was a major player for Ten Hag at Ajax and the pair shared a close relationship in Amsterdam.

The new Manchester United boss has made it clear to De Jong that the midfield will be built around his qualities.
