Signing a new striker is a number one priority for Magpies boss Eddie Howe and Reims hitman Ekitike is a top target.
Newcastle failed with their efforts to snap up the 19-year-old in January but are optimistic about getting a deal done this summer.
The Reims hierarchy are keen to let Ekitike join Newcastle for the £26.5m they are offering, but the Tyneside giants are yet to get a deal over the line for the player.
Ekitike is also attracting interest from German giants Dortmund, who can offer him Champions League football, while Newcastle will not be playing in Europe next season.
However, the Magpies have assured Ekitike that he will play a crucial role under Eddie Howe and they feel the opportunity to clock up senior minutes on a regular basis will be enough to convince the striker to choose them over Dortmund.
Ekitike is among the highly rated young talents in Europe and the Newcastle hierarchy believe he can one of the players that can spearhead their attack as they push on to the next phase of their sporting project.
Newcastle have been looking to land Ekitike for some time and fans will be hoping they can find a breakthrough soon.
