Botman has been Newcastle’s top defensive target since January when they failed to convince Lille to sell the centre-back in the ongoing transfer window.

 

The Dutchman has prioritised joining AC Milan and has already agreed on personal terms on a contract with the club.

 

 

But AC Milan are yet to agree on a fee with Lille and Newcastle have been pushing to change the defender’s mind about moving to Italy.

 

Botman has continued to angle for a move to the Rossoneri but Newcastle are not prepared to give up and will not pursue other defenders until they have his answer.

 

 

The 22-year-old has not completely rejected a chance to join Newcastle but would prefer a move to the San Siro.

 

However, Newcastle are willing to wait and want a firm answer from Botman before considering other defenders.

 

 

The Lille defender is their top target and they do not want to shift their focus from their plans just yet.

 

They have been offered alternatives to Botman but for the moment, they want to hear from the Dutchman first.
