It emerged over the weekend that Ronaldo has told Manchester United that he wants to leave after just one season since returning to Old Trafford.

The Portuguese wants to continue playing in the Champions League and does not believe Manchester United are in a position to compete for major honours next season.

Ronaldo will not be reporting for pre-season training today due to family reasons but he is set to have face-to-face talks with new Manchester United manager Ten Hag once he gets back.

And it has been claimed that Manchester United are banking on the Dutchman to change their star man’s mind.

Ten Hag has been planning next season with Ronaldo in his mind and is keen to keep him at Old Trafford.

Manchester United are hopeful that he will be able to convince the veteran to buy into his plans moving forward.

Ronaldo’s request has come as a bombshell for the Old Trafford outfit who had no plans to find a replacement for him this summer.

Manchester United are insistent that he is not for sale and want to keep him for the final year of his contract.
