Howe led the club’s resurgence as the Magpies climbed from the bottom of the Premier League table to finish in a creditable eleventh position despite looking like favourites for relegation at the end of the first half of the campaign.
Following a Saudi-backed takeover of the club, Newcastle spent heavily in the January transfer window in a bid to secure their Premier League status.
Howe stated it is important to continue the good feelings from the end of the previous campaign but also added that it is a new season and Newcastle will have to fight for every point.
“I think it’s vital for us that we continue that good feeling”, Howe told Sky Sports.
“We had an unbelievable connection with the supporters at the end of the season.
“We had momentum, we were playing well and getting some good results.
“We’d love the season to start in that fashion and build momentum again, but we know it’s a new season and we have to earn that right.”
Howe also pointed to the quality of the opposition Newcastle will face but emphasised that the current squad are much stronger than the Magpies had at this stage of the last campaign.
And Howe is hopeful that Newcastle will hit the right notes with their performances in the upcoming season by starting well.
“The competition that we’re in is at the highest level, the competition gets greater but I do think we’ve got a strong squad, a stronger squad than at this stage last season, so I’m hopeful that we can hit the ground running”, he added.
Newcastle will start the new Premier League season at home against newly promoted Nottingham Forest and will look to get all three points in the bag.
