The Magpies are in the market for a forward and are working on a deal to sign Watford’s Joao Pedro before the window closes next week.
But Newcastle have other tracks they are keeping warm as well and they have an interest in getting their hands on Rennes forward Terrier.
According to French sports daily L’Equipe, Newcastle are prepared to offer as much as €45m to sign the striker this summer.
It is also suggested that Leeds have so far seen two proposals for Terrier rejected, with the latest one coming in at €35m, and it remains to be seen if they will go back in for the player.
Newcastle’s potential bid will touch the mark that Rennes would have wanted but the French club do not want to sell him anymore.
Rennes have been clear about not wanting to part ways with the striker before the window closes on 1st September and he has insisted he is staying.
They are already laying down the groundwork in order to agree on a new contract with Terrier.
It remains to be seen whether Newcastle can change Rennes’ mind before the transfer window slams shut next week.
