Eddie Howe’s side have been looking to agree a deal with Watford for Pedro and saw bids for the Brazilian attacker rejected.

It had been thought they would make the breakthrough and take Pedro to St James’ Park before the closure of the transfer window, but now the picture has changed.

Newcastle are splashing almost £60m to sign striker Alexander Isak from Real Sociedad and the move has seen a swoop for Pedro called off.

The Magpies will not move for Pedro and are instead looking elsewhere.

They still want to make further signings, but will now be focusing on loans before the transfer window slams shut.

Newcastle will be looking to wheel and deal in the loan market to back Howe with extra fresh faces.

The club have been keen to make two signings in the final third and with Isak have one through the door; but Pedro will not be joining the striker.
