The 19-year-old spent last season with Bristol Rovers, scoring eight goals while laying on five assists and helping the Gas to earn promotion to League One.

Anderson impressed Eddie Howe in the pre-season and the Newcastle manager wants to keep the attacking midfielder at St. James Park amidst interest from a host of sides, including Bristol Rovers.

The 19-year-old featured for the first time for Newcastle this season against Tranmere Rovers in an EFL Cup tie on Wednesday and the attacking midfielder revealed that it was a surreal experience for him to hear fans chanting his name.

Anderson, who used to be amongst the crowd chanting players’ names, admitted that the whole experience gave him goosebumps.

“When I heard that I had goosebumps in my arms, it was quite surreal really”, Anderson was quoted saying by Chronicle Live.

“Because I used to be in the crowd chanting players’ names and then when it’s about you it feels quite mad.”

Newcastle United will take on Wolves on Sunday and Anderson will be eyeing a spot in the startling line-up against Bruno Lage’s side.
