Former Bundesliga man Rahman arrived at Reading last term on loan and went on to make 29 appearances in the Championship, despite missing a portion of the season due to injury and international duty.

The 28-year-old left-back was impressive for Reading last season and they want him back to bolster their options in defence.

Chelsea have already parted ways with Emerson Palmieri this summer, while Marcos Alonso could also depart, but still Rahman does not find himself in the Blues’ plans.

Now Rahman is on the verge of sealing a move away to Reading on a season-long loan, according to German daily Bild.

Reading flirted with relegation last season in the Championship, but in the current campaign are leading the table under the management of Paul Ince.

Rahman has not played a senior game for Chelsea since the 2015/16 season and has spent most of his time since out on loan.

He did impress in the Bundesliga at Augsburg, which convinced Chelsea to sign him, and will hope to again play regularly this term, back at Reading.
