The Yorkshire giants are active on deadline day, but have already suffered disappointment due to a swoop for PSV Eindhoven winger Cody Gakpo collapsing.

Gakpo had been expected to board a plane to fly to Leeds and complete the move, but had second thoughts and is now staying at PSV Eindhoven.

The Whites are working on other deals though and have asked West Ham about signing Ashby.

Ashby, a promising right-back, is prepared to make the move to Elland Road if Leeds can agree a deal with West Ham for his services.

However, it is far from clear that the Hammers will agree to let Ashby join the Whites.

David Moyes has some injury issues in defence, while Ashby also contributes towards the quota of homegrown players at the London Stadium.

Ashby has been capped by Scotland up to Under-21 level and it remains to be seen where he will be playing when the window shuts.
