The 19-year-old helped Bristol Rovers gain promotion to League One last season while on loan, and this summer, despite interest from several clubs, Anderson wanted to remain and compete for a role at Newcastle.

Howe agreed with keeping him and Anderson is highly rated at St. James’ Park; he has made three appearances for Newcastle this season, the most recent one coming against Liverpool on Wednesday.

The Magpies manager revealed that the 19-year-old is an important part of his plans for the future and pointed out his contributions in Newcastle’s last two Premier League fixtures.

Howe expressed his delight at the progression Anderson has made and stressed that the player is pushing for his first Premier League start of this campaign.

“He’s going to be integral to our plans”, Howe said in a press conference.

“You can see that in the last two games where he has contributed off the bench.

“He’s pushing for that start.

“I’ve been delighted with the progression that he has made.”

Newcastle will face Crystal Palace on Saturday at St. James’ Park, and it remains to be seen if the Magpies boss will hand Anderson his first league start of the season against Patrick Vieira’s side.
