Newcastle are looking to spend big this summer in order to reinforce Eddie Howe’s squad that will be playing Champions League football next season.

However, the Magpies are facing similar problems that they faced last summer with clubs and players asking for more money in terms of fees and wages due to them being owned by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund.

Moves for players such as Bayer Leverkusen’s Moussa Diaby and RB Leipzig’s Dominik Szoboszlai are proving to be problematic because of massive financial demands.

Newcastle are now considering moves for players in teams who were relegated from the Premier League and Adams has emerged as a key target.

The US international impressed several Premier League clubs before his season was cut short by a hamstring injury in March.

Leeds would prefer to keep him but more and more Premier League sides are showing interest in him, including Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa.

Newcastle were impressed by the player’s character and combative nature that Howe prefers in his team.

A move for him would also be less expensive as he is expected to be available for somewhere around £30m.
